Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković and Foreign Affairs Minister Davor Ivo Stier have reacted following the outcome of the US Presidential elections.
Croatian Prime Minister Plenković has congratulated Donald Trump on becoming the 45th US President and was confident that good relations between the two nations would continue.
“I congratulate Trump on his victory, we respect the will expressed by US voters and I am sure that we will foster good relations with the new Administration,” Plenković told reporters in the coastal resort of Opatija where he was speaking at a conference.
The Republican nominee Trump defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton overnight and Plenković’s Foreign Minister backed up his statement be saying that Croatia will continue developing allied relations with the United States.
“Our position is very clear. We will continue developing allied relations with the United States” he said on Wednesday morning.
“Croatia and the USA are allies in NATO. We will continue advocating firm Trans-Atlantic relations. This is important for Croatia, this is important for our foreign policy priorities and for the southeast of Europe. NATO’s role has always been crucial for the architecture of peace in Europe,” Stier added.
He underscored that the role of the USA was also of key importance for international relations, global peace and stability. Stier is confident of stable Croatia-USA relations and continuation of bilateral relations within NATO.
