A cleaner at a hospital in the central Croatian town of Bjelovar was asked to hold the leg of a patent as a doctor prepared it to be amputated, causing her to pass out…
The cleaner, who has been absent from work on sick leave since the incident, was asked to hold the leg of a patient because nobody else was around to do it.
“During the preparatory process the cleaner was asked to hold the leg of a patient who was to undergo arthroscopy surgery which requires special preparation. What we admit is that the cleaner, unfortunately held the leg, but not during the operation, because there was neither a doctor or a nurse working at the time,” said Bjelovar hospital director Stjepan Grabovac to daily 24sata.
The Ministry of Health, has demanded a full enquiry into the incident.
“If the inspection of the case failures, the Ministry will take measures in accordance with the Health Care laws, ” said Health Minister Siniša Varga.
