Parties and ‘fešta’s’ were held all over Croatia last night to celebrate Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day, but none were bigger than the traditional concert held in Čavoglave by patriotic rock singer Marko Perković Thompson…
More than 100,000 Croats turned up on Tuesday night from all parts of the country, as well as from overseas, to party in the small town in the Šibenik-Knin area, which is the birthplace of Thompson. The popular rocker built a Church of Croatian Martyrs at his own expense in the town, dedicated to fallen Croatian soldiers and to the civilian victims of the war. For this reason every year he organizes a fund-raising concert on 5 August in honour of Victory and Homeland Thanksgiving Day. This year’s concert was the 11th anniversary. Police made 6 arrests at this year’s concert, whilst 10 people needed medical assistance on the night.
