ZAGREB, June 7 (Hina) – The tenth edition of the Supertoon International Animation Festival will take place in the coastal city of Sibenik from 20 to 24 July.
The festival will showcase short animated films from all over the world in five competition categories, with guest appearances by renowned animators, directors, and producers from Croatia and around the world.
The festival’s organisers said that this year’s edition would take place “despite the coronavirus pandemic, a possible second wave of infection, the uncertain fate of the tourist season, budget revisions, painful cuts in the independent culture sector and other misfortunes,” and that it would include new content.
Festival director Slave Lukarov said it was extremely important in these trying times not to deprive citizens of culture and art, “which make life if not meaningful, then at least richer and more beautiful.”
The films selected via a public international tender will be screened in several competition categories, and international festival juries will choose the festival laureates.
It has also been announced that there will be a children’s animation workshop, and some of its participants will this year again comprise the festival jury for the short films for children category, Planktoon.
There will also be screenings of out-of-competition films, interviews with filmmakers and other educational and entertaining activities, and the novelty is that representatives of the regional independent comics scene will also make guest appearances.
