162nd Anniversary of Nikola Tesla’s Birthday Being Marked in Croatia with Traditional Events

The traditional Tesla&Friends event has started to mark the 162nd anniversary of the birth of the Croatian-born world-renowned scientist and inventor Nikola Telsa.

Tesla was born in Smiljan, Croatia on 10 July 1856 before he emigrated to the United States in 1884.

With the projection of Nikola Tesla on the Zagreb fountains in front of the National and University Library in Zagreb on 9th of July starts traditional manifestation Tesla&Friends which marks the 162nd anniversary of the birth of Nikola Tesla and the 5th Day of Nikola Tesla–Day of Science, Technology and Innovation in the Republic of Croatia.

On 10 July flowers were laid at the monument of Nikola Tesla in Zagreb by representatives of the Association of Nikola Tesla – Genious for the future, City of Zagreb and Institute Ruđer Bošković. The traditional act of releasing a white dove, the symbol of Tesla’s messages, also took place.

The same day at 19 hrs at Hotel Esplanade in Zagreb, within the festive programme of marking the anniversary of Tesla’s birth and Day of Nikola Tesla, will be held the granting of the annual award „Nikola Tesla – Genius for the future“, accompanied by music performance of Sandra Bagarić and Darko Domitrović. Also, two short roundtables „Inspired by Tesla“ will be organised about the role of science and economy in the protection of the environment.

After the festive event at Esplanade, the concert of Jose Curea will be held at the square Trg kralja Tomislava at 21:30 hours honoring Nikola Tesla, provided by the city of Zagreb.

The last day of manifestation on Wednesday, 11th of July at 10 am at the Croatian Chamber of Commerce-Chamber of Zagreb will be held the Conference „Tesla in Zagreb“ about the waste sustainable economy and the importance of protection of the environment in the Republic of Croatia. At the Technical Museum Nikola Tesla at 19:30 hours in Zagreb will be open the exhibition „Tesla’s world system“ provided by the Museum of Science and Technology from Belgrade and Zagreb Technical museum.

The manifestation „Tesla&Friends“ is organized for the 9th year in a row by the Association Nikola Tesla – Genious for the future. The manifestation is held under the auspices of Mr. Gordan Jandroković, President of the Croatian Assembly, Ministry of Science and Education, Ministry of Enviroment and Energy, Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts, City of Zagreb, Zagreb Tourist Board,Crommission for UNESCO, Croatian Chamber of Commerce-Chamber of Zagreb and Rochester Institute of Technology Croatia.

The partner of the manifestation this year is Croatian Agency for the Environment and Nature – HAOP.

All the events, except the festive programme at the hotel Esplanade (enterance with invitation), are open and free for the citizens.
