One of Croatia’s most famous Christmas lights displays is officially opened – a this year a record 2 million lights have been turned on.
For the last 15 Christmases in a row the Salaj family home in Grabovnica near the central Croatian town of Čazma has been a major attraction for locals and tourists.
It all started back in 2001 when the Salaj family started their Božićna Priča Christmas Tale – Salajland theme park when they decorated houses, trees and bridges over the ponds with an array of various Christmas lights.
The lights created a wonderful, fairytale ambiance, and have developed a large following with visitors coming from all over the country to see the display over the festive period.
Last Christmas 1.8 million bulbs were used to light up Salajland, and this year they have gone one step further with a record 2 million bulbs.
Salajland lit up on Friday and the lights will stay on until 9 January 2017. Božićna Priča will be open from 16:00 to 21:00 for visitors.
