Over two thousand children dressed in traditional folk costumes demonstrated today how tradition is loved and respected. A total of 55 groups paraded through the streets of Vinkovci in eastern Croatia, showcasing the customs of their region through song and dance in their traditional attire.
In accordance with the tradition of Vinkovačke Jeseni – Vinkovci Autumn Festival, the lively procession was led by young horse riders and majorettes accompanied by a brass band. The parade today serves as the opening act for the central week of the largest traditional festival, which attracts an ever-increasing number of visitors each year.
“Love for one’s homeland and the legacy of our ancestors cannot be taught; it resides within us and is felt in every step and smile from an early age. Images like these, depicting children’s love and dedication to the stories their great-grandparents have been telling for generations, can only be painted and presented in the most beautiful way by Vinkovačke Jeseni. There is no greater happiness than realizing once again that what we love and passionately engage in has a secure and happy future. The smiling faces of children, their songs, dances, and the unbreakable friendships forged in our town are the most precious things we have,” stated the host, Mayor Ivan Bosančić.
After the parade, the Children’s Folklore Festival continued at the Inter-county Gathering, where 8 groups performed, and for the first time at Vinkovačke Jeseni, the singer Domenica entertained the youngest attendees.
What is certain is that Vinkovačke Jeseni is a testament to the fact that tradition keepers continue to captivate the visitors of this unique event year after year.
