ZAGREB, 20 Dec (Hina) – The Central State Office for Croats Abroad will award 2,000 scholarships, 500 more than the previous year, for the 2024/2025 academic year to students of Croatian descent who live abroad.
The scholarships are awarded for a period of 10 months, with a monthly amount of €175, totalling €1,750 per student in this academic year.
Key criteria for granting the scholarships are the student’s academic performance and their social and financial status.
If the Office distributes all the planned scholarships, this means that the Croatian state will allocate a total of €3.5 million for this purpose.
Of the 2,000 scholarships, 300 are intended for students attending university education in Croatia (200 for Croats in Bosnia and Herzegovina, 60 for members of the Croatian ethnic minority, and 40 for members of the Croatian diaspora), 1,500 for Croats attending university education in BiH, 30 in Montenegro, five in Kosovo, 15 scholarships for ethnic Croats studying in North Macedonia, and 150 scholarships for eligible students in Serbia.
Students of Croatian descent from outside Croatia who are enrolled as regular students at public universities in Croatia, BiH, Montenegro, Kosovo, North Macedonia, and Serbia can apply for this kind of scholarship.
In addition to significantly increasing the number of scholarships, the Office has also raised their amount this year, from €150 to €175 per month.
This year’s numbers are even more impressive when compared to the 2022/2023 academic year, when the Office awarded 1,150 scholarships with a monthly amount of €150.
