2020 US Open: Marin Čilić becomes the 4th Croatian player to reach the 3rd round

NEW YORK, 3 September 2020 – It has been a good start to the US Open for the Croatian players with four out five advancing through to the third round.
The latest player to reach the third round was Marin Čilić who beat Slovak Norbert Gombos on Thursday afternoon, 6-3, 1-6, 7-6, 7-5.
Earlier in the day, Donna Vekić joined fellow Croatians Borna Ćorić and Petra Martić in the third round with a victory over Patricia Tig from Belgium in straight sets, 6-2, 6-1.
On Wednesday, Borna Ćorić beat Juan Ignacio Londero from Argentina 7-5, 4-6, 6-7, 6-2, 6-3 in the second round, whilst Petra Martić beat Kateryna Bondarenko 6-3, 6-4.
Ivo Karlović was the only Croatian singles player who has not advanced. The veteran lost his first round match against Frenchman Richard Gasquet.
