According to data from the most recent census conducted in Croatia, the honour of the most common surname in the country belongs to Horvat.
Almost 20,000 people carry the name Horvat out of a population of just over 3.8 million. The surname is derived from the word “hrvat,” which means “Croat” and was originally used to identify people from the area and over time it became a common surname.
In second place, over 6,000 people behind, is the surname Kovačević, followed by Babić, Marić and Jurić.
