From the Slavonian Riviera to an open-air adventure playground for children and adults, from attractive hiking and biking trails to pure adventure, the Požega-Slavonia County, known as Golden Slavonia, offers countless possibilities for all ages and physical fitness levels.
After the opening of the Aquapark Shhhuma, the most modern water world, at the entrance to the Papuk Nature Park in Velika in 2021, Golden Slavonia now has everything for a perfect outdoor family vacation.
If you are a fan of this type of travel, we bring you five ideas on how to recharge your batteries, relieve stress, or simply enjoy with your family and friends in the best possible way.
Slavonian Riviera
In addition to numerous hiking tours and camping options, and adrenaline attractions, Aquapark Shhhuma – a water complex with an area of more than 17 thousand square meters, with five pools, three slides, a children’s water tower, a slow river, a children’s playground – is definitely another attraction for visiting this part of Croatia.
The good news is that after the winter break, it is open again, and admission will be free until May 26.
The most exciting outdoor playground
With a course featuring 12 elements for adults and nine for children, an attractive zip line, a rope descent track…, if you lack excitement, the Adrenaline Park Duboka in Velika is the place for you.
It spreads over an area of up to 4,000 square meters on two courses with different devices. There is no greater challenge than testing your abilities among the treetops. An experience to remember, and the kids will want to cross the course several times.
Four camping destinations
Golden Slavonia, with its four top locations, is an ideal camping destination for lovers of greenery and peace. Camp Duboka in Velika, at the entrance to the Papuk Nature Park, is the first self-sustaining campsite in continental Croatia, with solar panels for hot water, a biological water purifier, its recycling yard… Ideal for environmentally conscious people and nature schools.
We suggest renting a bike at the camp and exploring the beauties of the unique Papuk.
The Kričke excursion site in Kričke is easily accessible from the Pakrac – Požega road. From volleyball, through small football, swimming in the lake, and walking through the forest – a real pleasure if you enjoy outdoor activities.
With 15 spacious pitches of 70 square meters and complete infrastructure, Zlatni Lug near Požega is becoming increasingly attractive for campers, as well as the spacious Čondić Ranch near Pleternica, with walking paths, viewpoints, lakes, different terrains and play equipment, and domestic animals.
Požega hiking trail
More than 300 kilometers of hiking trails are interwoven through Papuk, Psunj, Krndija, Dilj, and Požega mountains. The circular hike of the Slavonian mountains connects the mountaineering homes of Omanovac above Pakrac and Petrov vrh above Daruvar.
Even for the most experienced mountaineers, this is a real challenge, but you can also enjoy hiking in the fresh air and beautiful nature.
Cycling with a view
Those who want to experience what is considered by many to be the most beautiful view in continental Croatia should head to Omanovac. This peak and excursion site is located on Psunj, eight kilometers from the center of Pakrac. Surrounding the excursion site is a seven-kilometer-long circular cycling trail, a real delight for outdoor enthusiasts.
“With the new project Golden Slavonia Outdoor, we highlight and promote all the activities that this hilly part of Slavonia offers. Along with the opening of new high-quality accommodation facilities, environmental stewardship, an authentic experience, world-renowned wines, healthy food, Golden Slavonia Outdoor will become a part of our beautiful tourism story,” says Maja Jakobović, director of the Požega-Slavonia County Tourist Board, inviting visitors to explore this part of Croatia this spring.
