Far away from the spotlight is the microregion of Moslavina which is located not too far from the capital Zagreb in central Croatia.
Apart from perfect nature bathed in greenery, here are five reasons why food and wine lovers should pay a visit to Moslavina this summer.
Škrlet, light summer wine
Škrlet is the autochthonous white grape variety found in Moslavina. Floral scent with notes of citrus, apple and berry fruit and light herbal notes, škrlet is a pleasant, balanced wine, with fine and unobtrusive varietal flavours. Light, summery, drinkable, elegant…it goes perfectly with fish dishes, but also with red meat dishes. Its freshness is perfect for hot summer days.
MoslaVina Wine Festival
The best škrlet and other top wines were enjoyed last weekend in Kutina, at the traditional two-day MoslaVina Wine Festival. On one of the most beautiful squares in Croatia, with a guided tasting, award-winning wines were presented, great young, fresh, but also those a little older, aged, powerful, of exceptional potential. The festival is held every summer.
Cellars and wineries in Kutina
If you accidentally missed this attractive wine festival, book your first free weekend for a trip to Kutina and the Moslavina Wine Road. Stay in nature, take a walk through the landscaped vineyards, peek into the ambient wine cellars and wineries of famous winemakers Mikša, Lagen Winery, Košutić, Kašner, Kleti Romić, Jaram, Jančar … There they will offer you škrlet, but also Moslavac or dišeća ranina, indigenous Moslavina varieties.
Have you tasted carp on forks?
You may have already eaten it somewhere, but in the heart of Moslavina they will responsibly claim that it is the best there. It melts in the mouth, has a special texture and taste and comes straight from Lonjsko polje, the Nature Park which is the largest carp hatchery. It is even tastier paired with Kutina wines. Carp on forks is a revelation for gourmets.
When cycling and hedonism come together
You can also go to the vineyards by bike. The wine route is a great choice for hedonists, a perfect blend of recreation and enjoyment. For passionate cyclists, but also for beginners, the wider area of Kutina offers kilometres of marked and marked cycling routes that connect picturesque places and the biggest tourist attractions. An ideal combination of nature, rural architecture and industrial heritage.
