One persons ‘yucky’ is another persons ‘yummy’…
The annual Bljak Fest (Yuck Festival) is set to be held this weekend in the small coastal town of Omišalj on the island of Krk.
The festival, now in its 6th year, celebrates and showcases ‘specific’ or ‘acquired’ popular culinary specialties. The festival’s name ‘Bjak (Yuck) is associated with the reaction to the dishes the festival celebrates by many.
Specialties on offer at the festival, which will be held on 23 January, include tripe, chicken feet, tongue, brain pate, kidneys and much more.
This event is unique to the island and is organised in part by the carnival associations ‘Babani’ and ‘Omišjanski babani’. All the food at the festival is free with a symbolic price for a drink. Those whose stomachs are up for it should check it out!
