Whilst oil and gas drilling in the Adriatic coast has dominated headlines in recent times, attention has turned to continental Croatia…
On Wednesday Minister of Economy Ivan Vrdoljak announced that seven ‘serious’ companies have submitted bids in the first public tender for on-shore hydrocarbon exploration and exploitation.
“We are extremely satisfied with the offers. These are very serious companies with great experience in oil and gas exploration worldwide, which use state-of-the-art technologies and, most importantly, meet the most demanding environmental standards,” Vrdoljak said at a press conference yesterday, adding that the investment in the Slavonia region would lead to the creation of more jobs.
The first tender for on-shore exploration, which covers six exploration fields in the Drava and Sava river basins and the Eastern Slavonia region, was only the beginning with more projects in central Croatia and the Dinaric Alps planned.
The names of the companies were not revealed, whilst environmental impact studies would be released next month. Contracts with successful bidder would be signed by 18 July.
