Czech Republic’s Krystyna Pyszko was declared the 71st Miss World last night at the Jio World Convention Centre in Mumbai, India.
Miss Croatia, Lucija Begić, secured a spot in the Top 40 but failed to make it further in the competition. She is however coming home with a title.
There were various category competitions held during the last three weeks and Lucija triumphed in the sports category. Miss Martinique in the top model category, Miss Brazil won the Beauty with a Purpose award, Miss Vietnam claimed the multimedia category, and Miss Tunisia emerged victorious in the talent category.
The award for the best designer dress went to the new Miss World, Czech Krystyna Pyszko.
Lucija showcased a haute couture gown designed by Ivan Alduk on stage, a stunning blue pearl-adorned dress that took over a hundred hours to handcraft for the top model category.
Contestants were divided into groups: Europe, America and the Caribbean, Asia, and Africa. Three from each group advanced to the Top 12 semifinals, a honour bestowed upon Brazil, the Dominican Republic, Trinidad and Tobago, Botswana, Mauritius, Uganda, the Czech Republic, England, Spain, Australia, India, and Lebanon.
Further selection led to the Top 8, culminating in the Top 4 finalists, one from each group as the continent winner: Miss Czech Republic, Miss Botswana, Miss Trinidad and Tobago, and Miss Lebanon, who was also declared the first runner-up.
A thirteen-member Croatian delegation, led by license owner Iva Loparić Kontek, also traveled to India.
