Burgers are real festival food. There is no better party food, and family celebrations are unimaginable without them. Even though there were times when they had a bad reputation as unhealthy fast food, the seventh edition of the Zagreb Burger Festival, from September 8-18, 12 p.m.-1 a.m. daily, will prove this is not the case anymore.
The masters of the kitchen at the Festival have prepared tasty recipes with locally raised grass-fed and free-range meats and other wholesome ingredients. Yes, this amazing Festival showcases their popularity and the place this popular meat treat takes in the highly competitive world of gastronomy.
The green oasis of Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square is again turning into a Burger Empire with 19 food stands (13 with more than 40 delicious burger creations, 1 offering an array of fries, a cake shop, and four bars for the thirsty).
During the event, until September 17 at 5 p.m., visitors will choose the Burger Master of the Zagreb Burger Festival by scanning the QR codes at the stands. And this is not all as the chilly-eating contest for visitors, organized by the Volim ljuto team, will take place on Saturday, September 17, at 5 p.m. (All eager to have a go can register for the contest by filling in the application on www.volimljuto.com.)
The hot beats and excellent music by DJ masters Ozren Kanceljak Kanca, Robert Mareković, and Mario Kovač and many more will spice up the Festival. Or, to cut the story short, if you are in the mood for great entertainment, delicious burgers and fresh Staropramen beers, just come to Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square in Zagreb.
This edition of the Zagreb Burger Festival features the best from the coast: Flying Pig from the island of Hvar with their meat-based Barbie Q and a plant-based version of Plant Punk!; the last year’s winner Guloso, from Dubrovnik, with Pomet and Negromant; the island of Cres presenting Plavica with its island specialties Juncić and Jancić; Picnic with its ace, Blacky, that has repeatedly swept away the competition at the Zadar Advent; and Chef’s Burger by Ivan Pažanin and its new premium burger with truffles.
Zagreb’s burger masters are featuring more continental burger variations: the Burger Institute by Mate Janković proudly presents the new version of the Classic Smokey burger; Doomsday offers a whiskey sauce in one of its burgers; BBQ Hot Yard & Volim ljuto are playing with American and Asian influences and are proudly presenting their KIMchi KARDasian; thanks to 4Burgers, smash burgers, such as B2CON burger, are available in Croatia for the first time.
Under the watchful eye of their Chef, Nenad Komes, The Meat, known for the premium-quality meat, offer mini burgers for all those eager to try everything and also, for the first time, they will treat their guests with the Dry Aged burger prepared with meat aged for 60 days.
Beg’s Plant Based, known for its specialties based on plant proteins that appeal to everyone, is offering the already famous Double Decker and Fish Burger.
El Toro will add Peruvian Style burger with crunchy plantain to the already popular array of South American flavours. With great joy, we welcome an award-winning Toster, a burger bar from Novi Sad, and their favourites: Local One (a combination of pork greaves, cream mousse, and homemade ajvar) and Smokey (smoked cheese with mangalitza sirloin).
All those mad about fries will get a chance to try crispy treats at a stand dedicated to fries. Robert Hromalić at Le kolač, a cake shop, has once again demonstrated his inventiveness in the form of three flavours of ice coffee that go perfectly with the ice-cream pie. What a joy for all those with a sweet tooth!
And what is the last piece of this puzzle to round up this fantastic experience? A rich offer of beers, exquisite Gingle Bells and Aperol cocktails, homemade fragrant brandies, and fine wines at the central bar. You name it, we’ve got it for a perfect summer ending and great fun.
The Zagreb Burger Festival’s opening hours are from 12 p.m. to 1 a.m. The entrance is free. For more information, please visit https://www.facebook.com/ZgBurgerFestival.
