The Ministry of Tourism has announced today that they will fund the construction of 81 private swimming pools as part of its tourism initiative programme ’1000 swimming pools for Croatian tourism’…
“This year we have decided to give grants for private landlords to build indoor and outdoor swimming pools in order to improve the quality of private accommodation, which makes up half of the total accommodation capacities in Croatia. The construction of the swimming pools is to encourage the arrival of tourists at the time when the sun and the sea are not the main tourist attraction (pre and post season),” said Tourism Minister Darko Lorencin, adding that more programmes to encourage post and pre season tourism will be launched by the Ministry.
The requirement for the ‘free’ grants were that the swimming pool had to be bigger than 30 square metres, with indoor pools larger than 20 square metres and the accommodation having at least 6 beds. For all pools built up to 50 square metres in size no building permits will be required as part of the incentive scheme. The Ministry will give 50,000 kuna (6,600 euro) grants or up to 50% of the total investment.
