A screamer from Croatia captain Luka Modric for Real Madrid against Shakhtar Donetsk has been voted the goal of the week in the Champions League by UEFA.
Down 3-0, Modric got Real Madrid back into the game when he got the ball outside the box, beat two defenders, and fired in past a hapless Shakhtar keeper.
Modric’s goal beat great long-range strikes this week in the Champions League from Cristian Ramirez, Alejandro Gomez, and Corentin Tolisso.
“We weren’t at it in the first half, we improved in the second half but it wasn’t enough to come back. We have to keep going and there’s no time to feel down about it. We need to stay positive, stay together and we have to be better. I’m sure we’re going to improve. We have to trust in ourselves with the Clásico coming up and be ready for that,” Modric said after the loss.
