Nikola Mektić becomes first Croatian to win ATP Finals trophy

LONDON, 22 November 2020 – Croatia’s Nikola Mektić and his doubles partner Wesley Koolhof have won the Nitto ATP Finals trophy on Sunday.
The Croatian-Dutch team, who were the fifth seeds, finished their team debut season with their first title after beating Jurgen Melzer and Edouard Roger-Vasselin 6-2, 4-6, 10-5 in the final.
The duo, who joined forces at the Adelaide International in January and have won 24 matches together, won 61 percent of their second-serve return points (11/18) to clinch the trophy in 76 minutes.
Mektić is the first Croatian to capture a trophy at the season finale.

Mektić and Koolhof collected 1,300 FedEx ATP Doubles Team Ranking points and split $254,500 in prize money. Melzer and Roger-Vasselin earned 800 points and shared $184,500.
Next season Mektić will play with fellow Croatian Mate Pavić, who ended this season as world No. 1 with Bruno Soares.
