ZAGREB, Dec 31 (Hina) – The Fortenova Group on Thursday took over the Osijek dairy plant and as of 1 January 2021, the Belje Plus company will continue its 70-year-long tradition of producing dairy products and employ 88 workers.
The property of the former Meggle dairy in Osijek was taken over in line with a sales contract with Meggle, after Belje Plus was given the go ahead by the Croatian Competition Agency regarding concentration in the dairy industry, the Fortenova Group said in a press release.
Raw materials for the Belje dairy in Osijek will be supplied by 249 contractors, with the total daily quantity of milk estimated at more than 20,000 litres.
The Fortenova Group said the acquisition had come at the right time.
Apart from buyers increasingly preferring domestic products, in 2020 we finally saw a drastic decrease in dairy production coming to an end, the group said.
Meggle Croatia CEO Marjan Vucak said that he was pleased that dairy production would continue in Osijek and Slavonia, while Belje Plus CEO Andrej Dean underscored that Belje had two dairy factories – one in Beli Manastir and the other in Osijek.
Belje’s contractors are mostly family OPG farms from five Slavonian counties and most of them have a long tradition in milk production.
