Croatian passport ranked 18th globally
The latest and first Henley Passport Index global ranking for 2021 has just been released with the passport of Japan ranked as the most powerful.
The Henley Passport Index is the original ranking of all the world’s passports according to the number of destinations their holders can access without a prior visa. It is the only passport index that uses data from the International Air Transport Association (IATA).
Holders of a Japanese passport have visa-free access to 191 destinations worldwide. Singapore is in second place on this list of the most powerful passports with access to 190 destinations without needing a visa, and South Korea and Germany are in third place with 189 visa-free destinations.
The passports of Italy, Finland, Spain and Luxembourg share fourth place (188 destinations), with Denmark and Austria sharing fifth (187 destinations).
Sixth on the list are Sweden, France, Portugal, the Netherlands and Ireland with passports of Switzerland, the United States, the United Kingdom, Norway, Belgium and New Zealand tied seventh when it comes to visa-free access.
In eighth place are Greece, Malta, the Czech Republic and Australia. The Canadian passport is ninth and Hungary’s passport is tenth on the list on its own.
The Croatian passport is in 18th place on this list of the most powerful passports with access to 171 destinations without needing a visa.
Today’s youth are socially conscious, environmentally conscious and less nationalistic – all of which make them potentially the most mobile generation in human history, Henley says in its report.
The weakest passports
The weakest passports which require the highest number of visas when travelling around the world are the passports of North Korea, Libya, Palestinian Territory, Somalia, Pakistan, Syria, Iraq and Afghanistan.
