Croatia to export surplus potato to Ukraine

ZAGREB, 30 January (Hina) – Croatia and Ukraine have agreed on the export of surpluses of ware potato produced in the northwestern Croatian counties of Međimurje and Varaždin in 2020 to Ukraine, the Ministry of Agriculture said in a statement on Saturday.
The first refrigerated trucks with 100 tonnes of potato left for Ukraine on Friday.
The trade cooperation was brokered by the Ministry of Agriculture in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Ukraine’s Consulate.
A surplus of 40,000 tonnes of ware potato was produced in Croatia in 2020. The potato yield was 30% above the average, while at the same the demand for potato fell by 50% because of the coronavirus crisis, the statement said.
