ZAGREB, 25 February (Hina) – The Croatian company Infobip has won a global award of the Mobile Ecosystem Forum (MEF) for the best mobile solution in the COVID-19 Mobile Response category, and the solution has been introduced free of charge in more than 45 health ministries worldwide.
Infobip says in a press release that it has enabled, in cooperation with WhatsApp, transparent and timely communication between health ministries and citizens to prevent the spreading of false and incorrect information on coronavirus.
The solution makes it possible for citizens to obtain, in a fast and simple way, via a publicly available number, that is, WhatsApp chatbot, verified and correct information on coronavirus as well as the latest news on possibilities of testing, travel or local restrictions.
Infobip executive director Silvio Kutić said said the company was glad its solution had proven to be useful and successful in a large number of countries.
Infobip’s chatbot solution on WhatsApp has been introduced, among others, by the ministries of health of Great Britain, France, Germany, India and Nigeria, as well as by the World Health Organisation office for Southeast Asia.
Close to five million people have used the solution and so far 70 million messages between the health ministries of the countries involved in the initiative and citizens have been exchanged.
MEF’s annual awards (MEFFYS) recognise pioneers in mobile communication that introduce new trends, technologies and business models improving the global mobile ecosystem to the benefit of users.
In November, Infobip announced it was taking over the US company OpenMarket for around $300 million.
“The leading IT company in Croatia and the region, Infobip, from Vodnjan has concluded a sales contract with the US Amdocs company and has acquired the OpenMarket IT company, a leading B2B provider of mobile messaging solutions, for a gross cash amount of approximately $300 million,” the company said in a press release.
Infobip said that the transaction came less than three months after significant investment and partnership with One Equity Partners, the first foreign financial investor in the Vodnjan company. One Equity Partners worked closely with Infobip on the sourcing and the execution of this transformative transaction.
Infobip underscored that the acquisition of OpenMarket combines two excellent companies with the aim of creating a global leader in the field of cloud communication, and this latest acquisition accelerates Infobip’s growth and a combined revenue run rate of more than $1 billion.
The transaction will enable more than 14 billion user interactions a month through a series of communication channels in more than 190 countries, the company said in its press release.
“This transaction marks a significant leap forward in our journey towards exponential growth. Combined, Infobip and OpenMarket have some 10,000 customers, including many of the world’s leading enterprises,” Infobip’s CEO Silvio Kutic said.
