The Chinese edition of Lonely Planet, one of the most influential tourist guide brands in the world, has published a guide about the Croatian capital Zagreb in its March issue.
The guide covers information about Zagreb in a nice and vivid way and that it is primarily intended for travellers who love culture, art and local food, said Franka Gulin, director of the Croatian National Tourist Board in China.
“Although the realisation of tourist trips from distant markets in these current circumstances is much more difficult, the publication of the guide to Zagreb contributes to maintaining visibility and promotion of our capital in the Chinese market, but also Croatia as a whole,” said Croatian Tourist Board Director Kristjan Staničić.
Staničić said that tourists from China appreciated Croatia’s culture, nature and eno-gastronomy.
As Zagreb is known in the Chinese market as a “city of museums”, the author of the guide Si Ma Yan emphasis museums, galleries, murals, facades and other forms of street art on the streets of Zagreb. The author also recommends visiting interesting antique shops and buying antique jewellery in numerous retro vintage shops and charming jewellery workshops, and when it comes to accommodation, options are proposed for different categories of travellers, from the luxury segment to travellers on a smaller budget.
The guide especially emphasises that Zagreb is ideal for walks in beautiful parks, and Croatia is also popular as a filming destination.
“After Lonely Planet declared Zagreb the Best in Europe in 2017, this is the second major recognition for our city by this world-renowned tourist guide. We are honoured that Zagreb has been introduced to the Chinese market through a mini urban guide and we hope that, despite the demanding times we are in, it will contribute to the additional positioning of our capital in the Chinese market. Tourists from China have always been important for Zagreb, and the publication of such an urban guide confirms the importance of the Croatian capital in China,”said the director of the Zagreb Tourist Board Martina Bienenfeld.
