Croatia Airlines Strike Goes Ahead – 20 Flights Cancelled

Croatia Airlines have cancelled 20 international and domestic flights on Tuesday after a number of its pilots and cabin crew staff commenced strike action. The workers are striking after a stalemate in their new collective agreement negotiations. The workers will not agree to salary cuts or reduced leave entitlement.
The strike caused havoc at Zagreb’s main international airport early on Tuesday morning as passengers were left without flights. Most however had been re-booked onto flights on other airlines to get to their destination.
Croatia Airlines is currently going through restructuring in an effort to resurrect the loss-making national carrier before Croatia enters the European Union. Until now it had largely survived on government subsides, but that will no longer be allowed from 1 July when Croatia becomes an EU member state.
