Croatia’s ANII design studio has won international awards for the best beer label design, including the prestigious A’Design Award and a Craft Beer Marketing Award in the US.
ANII designed the label for Chef’s Beer, which was created in collaboration with several big names in local brewing and gastronomy, namely Varionica craft brewery, Zmajska pivovara, Bibich Wine Croatia, Barut Brewing and Blending and chef Mate Janković.
But the star of this show this time is not the contents, but its appearance. More precisely, the label.
The A’Design Awards is one of the largest and most influential designer competitions in the world, and is held every year in Italy.
Undoubtedly, it is a great honour for every designer to receive an award of this type, knowing that it comes from a jury consisting of dozens of professionals, businessmen and academics, and they attach equal importance and time to each of the submitted works in evaluation.
The evaluation criteria are predetermined in order to approach all designs in an equal, impartial way, and their main task is to direct the experts from the jury to the best products, projects, services, materials, technologies and experiences that improve and benefit society.
How exactly did Chef’s Beer’s label most successfully align with these demanding parameters? Part of the answer lies in the words of designer Ana Mrazek Lugarov, the leading person at ANII studio.
“The design of the label is reminiscent of those we see on wine bottles, ie a minimalist approach to design, quality paper and printing technique that emphasises parts of the label. The inspiration was certainly the chef’s uniform – white signifies the purity and simplicity of the uniform. the clothes of the chef who holds it in high regard,” are the words of the artist, who, in addition to design, also deals with photography, illustration and jewellery design, and finds the challenge in combining and synergising the mentioned skills.
In addition to the A’Design Award, ANII and Chef’s Beer are also the winners of this year’s Platinum Crushie, the award for the best beer bottle design at the Craft Beer Marketing Awards.
Launched in 2020, the competition covers over 30 categories from marketing and design in the beer world to the teams and individuals behind them. Applications came from all over the world, and Chef’s Beer was an attraction here as well, as evidenced by the platinum trophy for the best European bottle of craft beer, which will henceforth adorn the premises of the ANII studio.
The competition here was strong and renowned, but the judges decided that Platinum Crushie would go to Croatia, and the ANII studio will undoubtedly know how to build new ideas on the wings of such awards and keep the world of modern design constantly awake with success.
