Zagreb City Day celebrated with concert and other events

Croatia’s capital celebrates its day today with a concert and other activities for its citizens and visitors on Monday. May 31 is the day Zagreb celebrates its patron saint — Majka Božja od Kamenitih Vrata (Our Lady of the Stone Gate). 

To mark the occasion, the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb is organising celebrations which includes a concert by Swingers, which will be held from 17:30 at the Music Pavilion on Zrinjevac. 

Swingers and their guests: Lucija Čustić – Luce, Zdenka Kovačiček and the group Gelato Sisters will perform part of the repertoire of the great local music of Ivo Robić.

Also, this year the Tourist Board of the City of Zagreb will mark the City of Zagreb Day through projects that draw attention to sustainability, regeneration, city research, quality of life and environmental protection, and the director of the Tourist Board, Martina Bienenfeld, said: 

“Focusing on sustainable and regenerative tourism, in cooperation with the association Rearrange my pump, we are revitalising the Pimp my Pump project. We are painting 20 public water pumps, and we have designed a tourist route to visit the pumps for which we made a suitable map. The map can be obtained from our Visitor Centres or online on our website. We want to further create awareness that the city of Zagreb has drinking water available in many public locations and send the message that by repeatedly using the same water bottle, we can reduce the use of plastic. Each pump has its own QR Code which, when scanned with a mobile phone, displays information about the motif on the pump as well as the project.”

Another project announced is the Hanging Gardens where 250 greenery baskets are placed on the street lamps of the Lower and Upper Towns, which creates an image of Zagreb as a pleasant city and a sustainable destination. 

“The third project, refers to the mural of Herman Gollube, which delighted fellow citizens as part of the Street Triptych project, and which, today, on the eve of City Day, we are gifting it to KBC Zagreb (Rebro). We hope that it will enrich the stay of the staff, as well as the users of the hospital, and make their everyday life at least a little more beautiful. I take this opportunity to congratulate everyone on the Day of our city of Zagreb, May 31,” she said.

In addition to the above projects and concerts, the Tourist Board has provided free tours of the city, and during the day there will be special performances for children. On the Day of the City of Zagreb, popular characters from Zagreb’s past will walk through the centre.
