Croatian President Ivo Josipovic has met with British Prime Minister David Cameron at number 10 Downing Street on Thursday, with Cameron emphasising Croatia’s importance in the European Union project.
“Britain has long supported Croatia’s accession to the European Union and I am delighted that you are joining this year, a historic moment for Croatia and a historic moment for Europe,” said Cameron in London, adding that he hoped Croatia’s membership would be a success and that Croatia would be an example to other Balkan countries and bringing them into the European Union.
Despite a growing lack of confidence in the European Union project in his own backyard and the upcoming ‘in’ or ‘out’ EU referendum in the UK, Cameron said that the both the UK and Croatia would be building the European future together.
Josipovic’s meeting with Cameron was delayed several hours after Cameron and his government dealt with the horrific murder of a British soldier on the streets of London.
