ZAGREB, 12 June 2021 – Aer Lingus, the flag carrier airline of Ireland, has cancelled flights to a number of European destinations for the summer, including Croatia.
Citing a lack of demand, Aer Lingus canceled flights to multiple destinations across the EU for the rest of 2021.
Among the canceled flights are those to Croatia from Dublin and Cork.
“Until a few days ago, Aer Lingus had four routes on sale from Ireland to Croatia, but now tickets can be bought on only one route, Croatian Aviation writes.
Aer Lingus has been operating from Dublin to Pula, Split and Dubrovnik for several summer seasons, and a service from Cork to Dubrovnik has been announced.
Last summer season, only the Dublin – Split service operated.
This summer’s Dublin – Pula – Dublin service has been cancelled, as to has the Dublin – Split – Dublin route which was set to operate three times weekly. The Cork – Dubrovnik – Cork service also has been cancelled.
The only route on which Aer Lingus still currently allows you to buy a ticket is the one between Dublin and Dubrovnik. Given all the above, it is to be expected that this route to Dubrovnik will also be cancelled.
“Given the situation with international travel prior to the recent Government announcement, it was not possible for Aer Lingus to accurately predict where the demand would be. Destinations that were not attracting enough demand from customers have now been cancelled for the remainder of 2021,” as spokesman told The Irish Times.
Croatia Airlines to Dublin
Croatia Airlines returned its service connecting the Croatian and Irish capitals back in May. Flights operate between Dublin and Zagreb twice weekly every Thursday and Sunday.
Croatia Airlines suspended the service back in October 2020 after low demand caused by the pandemic after its return.
“As of today, Zagreb is again connected to Dublin by direct Croatia Airlines’ flights. We are happy that Croatia Airlines, by re-launching this line, has expanded its network of destinations and potential passengers, which will certainly strengthen its market position and contribute to increasing the number of passengers at Franjo Tuđman Airport as well,” Zagreb Airport said after the return flight landed in May..
