POREČ, 19 June 2021 – The 27. Vinistra has opened in the Istrian town of Poreč. This edition of the most wine event in Croatia is being held for the first time in the open air.
In the beautiful ambient of Peškera Bay overlooking the old town of Poreč, 75 exhibitors, including 60 wineries, gathered to present their wines, among them some from last year’s vintage which according to experts was extremely good quality.
“This is the first time it is being held in June and in the open, but interest in Vinistra is not waning. This is confirmed by the fact that we are one of the most attractive wine events in the region, and that people are hungry to socialise with top quality wines. We have opened the tourist season in Poreč and Istria, which we believe will be excellent, in the nicest possible way,” said Vinistra president Nikola Benvenuti.
Thanking the organisers for keeping up the tradition in difficult times, the vice president of the Croatian Chamber of Economy for Agriculture and Tourism, Dragan Kovačević, touched on the role the state plays in stabilising the wine sector.
“”Last year, a key role was played by the national aid program, which with 56 million kuna through crisis distillation and crisis storage removed 9 million litres of wine from the market, helped preserve current liquidity and freed up storage capacity for a new harvest. Although exports are falling, we are encouraged by the fact that our share of higher price wine is growing, and this clearly shows that Croatian winemaking should go, like Istria, in the direction of high quality,”said Kovacevic.
Also in attendance at the opening was Sandra Zokić from the Ministry of Agriculture and Poreč mayor Loris Peršurić.
“Istria through its work and excellence is a real example for the rest of Croatia. It is on the right path how it builds its public and private sector,” said Velibor Mačkić, one of the president’s economy advisors.
The 27th Vinistra ends on Sunday.
