Croatian post issues commemorative “Tokyo 2020” stamp

ZAGREB, July 20, 2021 – Croatian Post will put into circulation a new commemorative stamp dedicated to the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The motif of the stamp consists of stylised Olympic medals in a victory dance. The motif was done by Dean Roksandić, a designer from Zagreb.
100,000 copies of the stamp will go into circulation this Friday, Croatian Post said. The nominal value of the stamp is HRK 8.60.

The text on the occasion of the release of the new commemorative stamp was prepared by Mićo Dušanović, a well known Croatian sports journalist.
Dear friend, in front of you is something special from the world of philately. A brand that carries within it the story of a moment in human history, an event whose consequences, now that we look at this beautiful brand, we can only fantasise about. We can also hope that the Olympic Games in Tokyo in 2021 will remain the only ones where only domestic spectators were present and which stood as the income of a smaller country. Games that we will remember as the “Masked Games”.
Let’s hope we’re right, but there are other beginnings of the paths of our history. The games will be a mirror of human civilisation, unprecedented achievements in sports and technology. It will be amazing. But the world will experience them across the screen. You will have all the possible information, but – will you “feel” it?
You will see sweat, tears, joy, never cleaner and more plastic, it will raise your hand to touch them, and you will be greeted by a cold screen. There will be no autographs, selfies, queues, socialising, celebrations – life. Is it our fault? Did we do anything wrong? Today we are confused. That is why this accompanying text, along with your collection star, is not common. As you watch it, it challenges you to imagine the future for yourself.
Tomorrow you will see if you were right or your heirs will know what she marked. In any case, it will remain unique. We want it wholeheartedly to be remembered for its greatest sporting achievements, as an unusual episode, as the MAGIC GAMES that we will remember with a smile.
