Tourists flocking to Croatia again – the 6 most popular destinations

ZAGREB, 27 July 2021 – The number of tourists visiting Croatia this summer has significantly increased from last year. 

Whilst not quite at pre-pandemic levels, tourists have been flocking to Croatia from all over Europe as the nation has welcomed international travellers. 

According to data from the eVisitor system, there are currently more than 900,000 tourists in Croatia. Most of them are currently in Istria, Kvarner and in the Split-Dalmatia and Zadar counties.

This past weekend alone there were 448,000 arrivals and 2.7 million overnight stays, which is a 20 percent increase compared to the same weekend last year, HRT said.

Compared to the same weekend before the pandemic in 2019, which was a record year, there were 24% fewer arrivals and 18% fewer overnight stays.

Once again, Germans make up the most number of tourists in Croatia, followed by Slovenes, Poles, Austrians and Czechs. 

Over the weekend, almost 843,000 vehicles were recorded and 46.5 million kuna in tolls were collected. Compared to the same weekend last year, vehicle traffic increased by 39 percent, and the amount of tolls collected by 41 percent. 

Compared to the same weekend of record 2019, vehicle traffic was down 3%, while the amount of toll collected was down 8 percent.
