ZAGREB, 4 Aug (Hina) – After it was impossible to organise Špancirfest last year due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the popular street festival will return to the streets of the northern Croatian city of Varaždin between August 20 and 29 for its 23rd edition, a news conference was told on Wednesday.
Varaždin Mayor Neven Bosilj expressed hope that restrictions at the end of August would allow the festival to be held, as they now allow the tourist season to proceed normally.
“The same way tourism is important to Croatia, Špancirfest is important to both Varaždin and Croatia. In 2019 we earned HRK 40 million during Špancirfest alone,” the mayor said.
The street festival will bring together artists and performers from Germany, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and Hungary.
Špancirfest also offers visitors a rich concert programme and workshops, studios and open-air exhibitions honouring the long and important tradition of craftsmanship in Varaždin. The festival has attracted thousands of visitors for 22 years.
