21st Zagreb Marathon Held In The Capital

More than 9,000 marathon runners from 35 countries took part on Sunday in the 21st Zagreb Marathon held on the streets of the Croatian capital.

One of Croatia’s most successful athletes, high jumper Blanka Vlasic, got the marathon officially under-way on Zagreb’s main Ban Jelacic square. The runners headed then eastwards to the suburb of Dubec, and then back to the city centre before finishing on Jelacic square.

Zagreb;’s Mayor Milan Bandic competed in the event, running the half marathon (21km) which was held alongside the full 42km event. The event, in its 21st year and organised by the Zagreb Athletic Association, saw the winners of the full marathon collect 3,000 euros prize money.
