Zagreb-Rijeka To Host European Universities Games In 2016

The European University Sports Association (EUSA) have announced on Saturday at meeting in Slovenia that the Croatian cities of Zagreb and Rijeka will host the European Universities Games in 2016.
Croatia’s bidding committee and the Portuguese delegation with the bidding city of Coimbra both presented their final presentations at the meeting yesterday before the EUSA committee voted that Zagreb and Rijeka would be the host of the 3rd European Universities Games. More than 4,000 participants from 200 universities from over 40 countries will take part descend on the Croatian cities for the event in three years time, 29 years after the Croatian capital held the World Universities Games in 1987.
Two-thirds of the events at the games will be held in Zagreb, with Rijeka hosting the remaining events. The last University Games held in Zagreb in 1987 saw a host of new facilities built including Cibona tower, Trams came to Novi Zagreb, hotel Esplanade and Dubrovnik in the city centre were renovated, 2 new student centres were built as were swimming pools and other sports stadiums.
