Ferry Price Rise To Hit Croatian Islands

There was bad news on Saturday for tourists and locals heading for the Croatian islands this summer with news of a hike in ferry prices.
From 1 June the Ministry of Transport introduced the new ferry price list, with most ferry ticket prices to the Croatian islands increasing over 20% from last year, and the decision has upset the islanders.
“It is shocking, for a tourist orientated country to put the prices up that much before the summer season is bad news for the islands as people will simply chose to stay on the mainland. I read that taking the car ferry to Lastovo alone for a family cost over 1,000 kuna (133 euros), that is like 2-3 nights accommodation on the mainland,” said a disappointed Korcula island resident.
There will be further bad news in a month’s time when the price of fast boat connections to the islands increases from 40 – 100%, reports Croatian radiotelevision.
