Zagreb Burger Festival, which goes on until 19 September, opened on Zagreb’s Dr. Franjo Tuđman Square on Friday.
The 6th edition of the popular festival features as many as 40 types of gourmet creative burgers. Nine specialist burger bars this year are vying for the title of the best burger and visitors can vote by scanning the QR code on receipts. Visitors will also compete in hot pepper eating contest on Saturday.
Dalmatia is represented at the festival by Guloso from Dubrovnik with burgers with the colourful names Gospar and Huncut, enriched with Dubrovnik poveruni paprika and Drniš pršut.
The other Dalmatian is Festina Lente from Šibenik, and their favourite is the Kobaja burger with pork sausages and three types of mustard.
Reshetka International arrives from Varaždin. They have already won awards at this festival several times, and the recently won the street food festival in Široki Brijeg, and won second place in Beograd.
Their favourite is Đuragan, which conquers you like a hurricane with its juicy flavours. The Chef’s Burger house hides burgers signed by Chef Ivan Pažanin. He flirts with flavours, deftly pairing aromatic onions with basil sauce and jalapeno peppers with onion jam.
Another well-known chef will leave his mark at the Zagreb Burger Festival – Burger Institute by Mate Janković. What do you choose? Pepper Jack or Classic Smoke? The most luxurious of all the houses, BBQ Hot Yard, in addition to its five staples, including Treatment and Peanut Butter Jelly burger, prepares ten specials – one for each festival day – it will smell like octopus, shrimp, turkey, but simply irresistible.
Zagreb’s The Burger Bar is preparing a two-story miracle and very photogenic burgers, one of them with a signature. Krančito, Čizer and Klasikaner are swinging on the grill of BrewBites and can’t wait for you to bite them, and Krančito enriched with tortillas is the king of crunchiness. We are always looking forward to the combinations of Chef Mario Mihelj from El Toro, who points out El Toro Bacon Asado as his favourite – black Angus paired with salsa verde with roasted peppers.
In addition to the rich offer of burgers, beer & cocktails are also unavoidable. And there are two desserts, in salty tones, visitors will enjoy nibbling on POPUP Popcorn – aromatic Croatian popcorn, sweet and salty, while icy ice cream flavours.
Rhythms & Beats will be shared daily by DJs – Stanko Bondža, Ozren Kanceljak Kanca, and female DJs: Rea and Babilonska.
You can watch the rest of the music programme, as well as other burgers on social networks. Admission to the festival is free and it is open daily from 12 p.m. – 12 a.m.
