PHOTOS: 2,500 children in traditional costumes parading through Vinkovci

Half a century of existence is being marked today with a procession through the centre of Vinkovci during the Children’s part of the Vinkovci Autumn Festival which is celebrating Slavonian culture, traditions and lifestyle.
In honour of the fifty-year tradition, 38 cultural and artistic societies are presenting themselves with worthy heirs of their rich heritage and confirm their love and respect for the tradition that their ancestors instilled in them from birth.
Along with the coat of arms of the event, a procession with about 2,500 children in traditional costumes, in accordance with the tradition of the Vinkovci Autumn Festival, is led by small horsemen, majorettes and the brass band of the Osijek Wind Orchestra.
Along with the Vukovar-Srijem hosts from Vinkovci, Privlaka, Gunja, Đurić, Jarmina, Apševac, Vukovar, Cerić, Otok, Rajevo Selo, Podgajac, Ilok, Korođa, Lovas, Nijemac, Ivankov, Cerna, Županja, Rokovac, Andeljaševci and Stari Mikanovac, the crowd is being introduced to the folklore and customs of their region by visiting girls and boys from Bugojno, Gospić, Vela Luka, Strizivojna, Vrlika, Jezera, Slavonski Brod, Bjelovar and Zagreb.
Oj rastiću šušnjati, Aj na livo, Hopa cupa, Bećarci, pučke igre, kandžijanje and poskočice is to be roared on the streets of Vinkovci from the throats of small folklorists with the rattle of ducats and tambourines.
Thus, for the 50th time, the small heirs of folklore and traditional culture of Croatia have the honour and task of being part of one the largest traditional events in Europe.
