ZAGREB, 17 September 2021 – The first “LADO on Mažuranac” festival was officially opened last night with a vocal-instrumental concert by the LADO Ensemble.
This is the first festival project of the LADO ensemble, which aims to revitalise the area of Mažuranac Park through the cultural offer of the only professional folklore ensemble in Croatia, and to see off the summer with locals and visitors of Zagreb and welcome autumn outdoors.
On the first day of the festival, the LADO Hop to the Top program was premiered on the open stage in Mažuranac Park. It is a recreational program intended for the general population who want to keep fit with trainings inspired by Croatian traditional dances and songs.
The program is planned to be presented in other cities in Croatia, and the aim is to include it in the offer of fitness centers across the country. This program will be presented today on the second day of the festival starting at 4 pm.
The end of the opening evening was reserved for LADO’s guests, the award-winning women’s klapa Cesarica and the premiere of the instrumental-vocal ethno jazz project of Jazziana Croatica by Borna Šercar and the LADO Ensemble.
The first collaboration between a professional folklore ensemble and celebrated jazz musicians was inspired by stories about Croatian myths and legends – witches from Klek, Kosjenka and Veronika Desinićka, fisherman Palunka.
The festival continues today, September 17, with dance workshops, handicraft workshops and a presentation of traditional instruments, as well as a visit to the holdings and workshop of the LADO Ensemble.
Screenings of the documentary film “70” about the LADO Ensemble at the Academy of Dramatic Arts are scheduled for 5.20 pm and 6.30 pm.
The Ethnographic Museum Zagreb also offers visitors free entrance to the exhibitions on the second day of the festival, and organizes a guided tour through the exhibition “Toys – Childhood Forever” which starts at 5 pm, and a workshop for schoolchildren from the neighborhood at 2 pm.
The concerts that were supposed to take place on the open stage at Mažuranac are moving to the hall of the LADO Ensemble due to the rain. It is a presentation of the LADO Hop to the Top program scheduled for 4 pm, a solo concert by the LADO Ensemble Orchestra at 6 pm, a dance concert by the LADO Ensemble at 7.30 pm, and the end of the evening is reserved for the band The Kazetofon with their concert starting at 9 pm.
