Fuliranje – Zagreb’s most popular Advent event opens

The charming Zagreb beauty, Hotel Esplanade, is hosting the popular Fuliranje on its attractive Oleander terrace from 2 December – 1 January, every working day from 12 p.m. – 11 p.m, and on weekends from 11 a.m. – 11 p.m.

Twelve restaurants, more than 40 DJs, as well as great musicians await visitors at Fuliranje, which is celebrating its 10th birthday this year.

From the first edition in Tomićeva Street, dedicated to the legendary Mr. Fulir, to the one in 2019 on Strossmayer Square, this event has crept into the hearts of the people of Zagreb, but also many visitors to the city.

It is often mentioned as “that place” with a top gastronomic offer and music. A good urban atmosphere combined with some warm cocktails and good company will surely be the choice of many for Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve.

Pepi Jogarde, Ozren Kanceljak Kanca and Zozo, as well as live performances by Yogi Lonich, Joe Pandur reinforced by Nikola Marjanović, Kristijan Beluhan and Michael Kvorka with friends, are just a part of this year’s music line-up.

This year, Fuliranje presents itself with partners, the MPG agency and the Esplanade Hotel, who have recognised this good vibe, tradition and recipe for ten years of success.

It is nice to think of others during the holidays, and the Marin Čilić Foundation has chosen Fuliranje for its holiday activities that will make you smile and be a wind in the sails of young talented athletes and artists. It will also offer visitors 10 sports items, and through an auction that will take place from 4.12 to 24.12. collect donations. Every two days a new item will be revealed, and offers/bids will be able to be sent in the comments of the posts on the Foundation’s Instagram.

Visitors will be able to follow the progress of the auction on a large auction calendar. But that’s not all, signed HEAD tennis balls as a decoration for the Christmas tree and balls can also be bought at Fuliranje by Marin Čilić & KOFER Foundation with gin spices and a Christmas card signed by famous athletes and musicians.

On Sundays, visitors can expect a concert by the Foundation’s music scholars at noon. Proceeds from the auction and sale of balls go to provide scholarships to young Croatian hopefuls In sports and the arts.

As many as six photo points are ready to take a selfie at, visitors can also touch the biggest Christmas balls by Konzum or check their reflexes and speed in the 10 GIGA Telemach corner, and on 18.12. and 23.12. get your brains out at the Telemach pub quiz and win valuable prizes. If you are wondering where to get holiday gifts, stop by Fuliranje Fun Shop and cheer yourself and your family up with a home-made popcorn set by Tvornica kokica or juicy Kroštula’s panettone. And when your fingers get cold, jump into Samsung’s pavilion and maybe your favourite gadget is waiting for you right there.

What have the gastro masters prepared

Chef Mate Janković remains faithful to his Sausage Institut, but adds his own special flair to them, and Chef Ivan Pažanin from Chef’s Burgers flirts with slightly different flavours of burgers.

For the first time at Fuliranje, the culinary and confectionery team of the Esplanade Hotel and chef, Ana Grgić Tomić, is on the street food scene, announcing great dishes such as cod, croquet, quiche lorraine and beef cheeks in a chic gastro twist, and there are, of course, the inevitable, baked Esplanade štrukli.

Izakaya flirts with a selection of “buns” with blood sausages, smoked pork hocks, but also more exotic variants of chistorra and ebi, with a rich palette of cocktails. Those peckish can check out the offer of Acrobat Wine Bar – which includes platters with slices of black pork, Blasquez and St.Luce pasta with the best wine and champagne labels.

El Toro remains faithful to South American flavours, so in addition to the already well-known salsicci (sausages), it also adds Asado beef tacos and crispy cannolas stuffed with tiramisu cream.

The creative Restač brings for the first time a 3pice sandwich, with maturo steaks, fritto misto and one “movie” dish. Taika, magic from the Arctic Circle, arrives with fine sandwiches with salmon and shrimp, and they have something for the team – Expedition Dish.

Good Kut, led by gastro-sensitive Ivana Bekavac, is preparing a finger-licking – ‘Soup to lower your blood alcohol level’, a ‘sandwich that has not seen meat’, a ‘strudel soft as a soul’ – and this is a place for vegans too. Beg’s Plant Based Butchery – premieres, but with a real rhapsody of flavours: Beg’s Santa Balls – meatballs in melted cheese pastries, Beg’s Choco Chilli – in dark chocolate tacos and Beg’s Mac & Cheeze are just some of them, as well as KAJ chai.

Special gold powder and drops with gastronomic shapes will be added by great bars – Rakijarnica with more than 40 types of brandy (there is nothing they don’t have), panettone by Kroštula – which is said to be the best in the universe and crunchy Croatian pop-up popcorn and Gingle Bells in a real Christmas cocktail mood.

‘As many holiday events in this part of the city were missing this year, we started preparing the Christmas programme on the terrace, and we especially liked the idea that Fuliranje, as an already established, tested and attractive concept, which carries a special spirit of Zagreb, is organised right here on the cult Oleander terrace on a higher level.
