Croatia beats Serbia to reach final of Davis Cup

MADRID. 3 December 2021 – Croatia has beaten Serbia 2-1 in Madrid on Friday to reach the final of the Davis Cup.
Croatia, who are on track to win their third Davis Cup title, got off to a dream start in the opening match when the impressive Borna Gojo beat Dušan Lajović to make it 1-0.
Although the Serbian took the first set 4:6, Gojo, who is ranked much lower than Lajović, stormed back to take the second set 6:3 before claiming the third set in style 6:2.

World no.1 Novak Djoković then expectedly put Serbia level at 1-1 when he beat Croatia’s no.1 Marin Čilić in straight sets 6:4, 6:2.
The the semi-final locked up, it would come down to the doubles match and with Croatia having the world number one team in Mate Pavić and Nikola Mektić, they were always going to be favourite against Filip Krajinović and Djoković.
Mektić and Pavić broke once in the first set to take it 7:5 before running away with the second set 6:1.

Croatia will play either Germany or Russia in the Davis Cup final on Sunday.
