VUKOVAR, 22 March 2022 – The first of 339 announced passenger ships docked into the eastern Croatian city of Vukovar on Friday.
The ship called “Viking Lif”, operated by Viking River Cruises, arrived in Vukovar with100 passengers on board.
The cruiser is sailing for 10 days from Budapest to Bucharest, and passengers, mostly American tourists, spent the afternoon exploring Vukovar on Friday.
The Deputy Mayor of Vukovar Filip Sušac and the Director of the Vukovar Tourist Board Marina Sekulić welcomed the tourists from America.
They were also introduced to local Vukovar products from the cooperative “Vrhunsko vukovarsko” and were given promotional brochures about the city.
“We are glad that the announcements for this year can be compared to the record year 2019, when 351 cruisers sailed into Vukovar. We are pleased that cruising is recovering in these challenging times. The Danube is our potential in terms of tourism, and the development of Vukovar tourism is accompanied by extremely good figures that we recorded last year in the form of tourist arrivals and overnight stays,” Deputy Mayor Filip Sušac said.
Last year, Vukovar was visited by more than 11,500 guests, and 27,500 overnight stays were realised. In 2021, six new accommodation facilities were opened, so today there are a total of 52 in Vukovar with more than 1,040 beds.
Based on the reviews of guests who visited Vukovar last year, the quality of the tourist offer and service in Vukovar was rated at a high 93.41%, which is 1.48% higher than the 2020 rating.
The director of the Vukovar Tourist Board, Marina Sekulić, pointed out that this year Vukovar is celebrating the 20th anniversary since the arrival of international cruisers in the river port of Vukovar.
“The first cruiser in 2022 has docked and today we have 339 announced for this year. We have reason to be optimistic about the cruising season, which ends in mid-November, of course, unless the situation with the global crisis significantly affects it,” explains director Sekulić adding that Vukovar’s tourist attractions such as museums are also recording a larger number of announced organised arrivals this season.
