A heroine of the Homeland War, Vukovar Hospital director Dr. Vesna Bosanac was farewelled on Thursday in Vukovar.
Dr. Vesna Bosanac, who was director of Vukovar Hospital during the Homeland War in the 1990s, passed away this week aged 73.
“Dr. Vesna Bosanac is a heroine of the Homeland War. In the most difficult times, she showed how she fights for her city and every person, in horrible and impossible conditions. It would be wrong to reduce her work to the denominator of the Homeland War, because her post-war work from the position of director of the Vukovar Hospital can be an example to all of us,” Vukovar Mayor Ivan Penava said, before adding.
“Her departure is a loss for all of us, both for the city of Vukovar and for the whole of Croatia. We can’t do much against the fact that time does its thing, but what we can do is say a big thank you to her.”
In 2002, she was awarded the Order of the Croatian Danica with the figure of Katarina Zrinska and in 2011 she received the “Charter of the Republic of Croatia” on behalf of the Vukovar General County Hospital from the Croatian president at the time.
Dr. Vesna Bosanac’s courage and humanity, which she selflessly showed in the most difficult times for Vukovar, will always be remembered.
