Summer School of Croatian Folklore to be held in Zadar – applications open

The annual Summer School of Croatian Folklore will be held this year from August 4 to 13 in Zadar on the Dalmatian coast.

During the Summer School of Croatian Folklore this year, participants will be introduced to dance, folk costumes, songs and musical instruments of the islands of Krk, Cres, Rab, Pag, Silba, Čiova, Šolta, Brač, Hvar, Korčula, Mljet, Lastovo as well as Split, Trogir, Kaštela, Makarska Riviera, Pelješac peninsula, Dubrovnik region, Neretva and Šibenik region and islands.  

Dances and music of southern Herzegovina and dances of Croats in the Bay of Kotor will be taught. 

In addition to the program of expert director Andrija Ivančan, the artistic director of FA Linđo from Dubrovnik, the tamburitza department is headed by Tibor Bun, a well-known tamburitza leader from Varaždin, and the department of traditional instruments is in charge of music pedagogue Vjekoslav Martinić, a well-known master of making traditional instruments from Garešnica. The guest lecturer will be the respected composer maestro Siniša Leopold.

Along with them, other excellent experts, folklorists and ethnochoreologists, as well as renowned researchers of Croatian folklore will share their experiences with the participants: Marica and Tonči Tadin, Vidoslav Bagur, Nenad Milin, Damir Kremenić, prof. dr. sc. Goran Oreb, Katarina Horvatović and Kristina Benko Markovica, with the collaboration of music accompanist Antun Kottek and assistants, excellent artists and folklorists, Filip Martinić, Martin Durbek and Ivan Ivančan.

Croats outside the Republic of Croatia may be exempted from paying tuition fees on the basis of an approved written request from their cultural community.
