Croatia

Are you wondering about how gas prices are affecting the Croatian economy? Are you wondering if Croatia has the means to produce enough energy for their needs and to even export their energy? Do you want to understand the opportunities Croatia has at their doorstep?

On Monday May 9th, 2022 at 10:00 P.M. CEST (Croatian time), Crodiaspora will be hosting Macroeconomist, Goran Šaravanja, and upstream oil and gas expert, George Kovačić, to answer questions about the energy crisis and how Croatia can take advantage of the opportunities that have arisen.

Goran and George have presented in the past the potential of the Croatian energy sector at the Crodiaspora summit in 2020. Read the summary and watch their presentation by clicking here.

While Croatia is well equipped geographically to pursue effective renewable sources, it must be noted that this pathway would prove to be very expensive, especially considering the Croatian economy is still acclimating to the European economy.

Croatia is sitting on a hotbed of energy and this moment in time is crucial in helping Croatians as well as other EU member states to lean off of Russian natural gas and oil.

This will lead not only to a more ethical sourcing of natural resources, but a shorter transporting distance will result in less CO2 emissions for gas produced in Croatia.

Croatia has prime opportunities in onshore and offshore oil and gas production as well as liquefied natural gas and its accompanying transportation infrastructure.

The LNG terminal on the island of Krk is operational, linking energy interests with neighbors Slovenia and Hungary, which in turn reinforces positive foreign and business relations.

Being able to produce energy for our own consumption and help our EU allies import energy can significantly reduce costs for energy and tackle inflation on the European continent.

As the energy sector is also part of the global supply chain, what happens in Croatia also affects others around the world. Crodiaspora is asking for your questions concerning Croatia’s energy capacities and the challenges Croatia and the world face in tackling the energy crisis.

Send them questions via email to [email protected], or message them on Facebook, Instagram or LinkedIn. The webinar will be streamed on the Crodiaspora Facebook page on May 9th, 2022 at 10:00 P.M. CEST (Croatian time).
