Business Success For Spaniard In Sinj

Croatia’s business climate has been described as ‘hostile’ and ‘anti-business’ by certain foreign circles recently, but that is definitely not how Spanish businessman Jon Olasagasti, who has just employed 100 women in the town of Sinj just north of Split, will describe it.

The successful Spanish entrepeneur, who opened his fish processing plant in Sinj in February hiring  30 workers,  last weekend put a call out for an extra 100 workers to meet ever-growing demands.  Olasagasti told daily 24sata that he did not have a problem filling the vacancies after putting an advert on a local radio station.

“I am happy, and now it is a lot easier that I have enough workers and we can work in two shifts and meet all our orders,” said Jon, who says his plant processes fish from the Adriatic before shipping it off to Spain. Olasagasti’s Sinj fish filleting and salting plant produces between 10-15 tonnes of salted anchovies daily before selling it on to Spain. For now only Adriatic fish is processed, but because of large demands, Jon may have to import fish from Spain.
