Croatia and Greece have drawn in the opening game of Group B at the 2022 World Water Polo Championships in Hungary on Tuesday night.
Croatia turned around a 4-1 deficit after the first quarter to finish the match tied with the current Olympic runners-up 8:8 (4:1, 1:4, 2:1,1:2).
“We snatched this point with great desire and heart. As was expected, during the match we noticed cramp in the players, but the boys can’t be blamed for that. However, this is the first match of the World Championships,” coach Ivica Tucak said after the match, before adding.
“I am really happy with the will and desire shown. The tournament has just started, two more group matches await us. This is a great experience for these guys, everything is still open and we are going step by step.”
Croatia faces Germany next on June 23 at 6:30 pm, before facing Japan in the last group match.
It was hard, especially the first quarter, which is understandable considering that we have so many debutants and young players. As soon as we recovered and started playing our game we got back into the match. We have a point from this first match and now we are already turning to the next rivals, the Germans,” said captain Ivan Krapić.
