Croatia’s youngest town the place to go for kulen lovers

“They choose the best meat in kulen, they don’t cut it, they slice it, salt it, pepper it, impose a lot of crivi, as best they can. Kulen is put in a piece of old net, when it needs to be dried; it just has to lie on salted meat for eight days. Then they put it in the smoker with other meat in the net” – wrote Josip Lovretić about the most famous Slavonian delicacy kulen a long time ago.
This Friday, the best kulen masters will gather in the youngest Croatian town, Otok, more precisely in the Spačva forest, in the green oasis of Otok at the Bioecological Education Center Virovi.
Having the best kulen has always been a prestige and a great recognition, so the interest in this event is great.
A novelty this year is only approved and registered kulen producers have the right to participate.
The 19th “Otočka kulenijada” will see the best kulen producers have their products tasted and rated with prizes for the best awarded.
The event will be held on June 25, 2022 in the Bioecological-Educational Center Virovi.

Along with tasting kulen and other Slavonian delights, the sounds of traditional tamburitza music will keep guests entertained.
Visitors can also can rent kayaks, walk the educational trails of the Spačva forest, enjoy the chirping of birds and the endless greenery of the Spačva pool.
