According to data from the Croatian National Bank (HNB), foreign tourists have generated 495 million euros in the first quarter of 2022, Croatia’s Ministry of Tourism and Sports said in a statement on Thursday.
This amount from January, February and March 2022 was 2 percent more compared to the same period in 2019, which was a record year for Croatian tourism.
When comparing it to the first quarter of 2021, the income generated from foreign tourists was more than twice as high, with a increase of 105 percent.
In the first three months of last year, 242 million euros were earned from foreign tourists.
Announcing the results, Minister of Tourism and Sports Nikolina Brnjac said:
“This year’s first quarter is also the best first quarter in Croatian tourism so far in terms of income from foreign tourists. This is an excellent indicator of good demand, interest in quality offers and products, and a positive indicator for the continuation of this tourist year.
Taking into account the previous fiscalisation data, we expect the continuation of positive trends during the next period as well, which is important for further growth and stimulation of the investment cycle in tourism.
The Government of the Republic of Croatia continuously and systematically undertakes numerous measures to make the Croatian tourism sector and economy as competitive as possible.
We are also pleased with today’s announcement of an increase in the income tax limit for dependents from HRK 15 to HRK 24,000, which, among other things, will enable the employment of a greater number of students in seasonal jobs in tourism. This will certainly contribute to the further stabilisation of the sector in the coming period, better service for our guests and good financial results.”
In 2021, there were 13.8 million arrivals and 84.1 million overnights in Croatia recorded. The most popular destinations were Zagreb (638,000 arrivals), Rovinj (549,000), Dubrovnik (543,000), Split (529,000) and Poreč (431,000 arrivals).
