Pelješac Bridge, which connects the southernmost parts of Croatia and the country’s mainland, will open as planned later this month.
The 2.4 kilometre-long bridge, along with 20km of access roads, will open to the public for traffic on July 26.
“Everything is good, everything is going according to plan. The heat is difficult for the workers who are working at the moment, but as things stand, on July 18 the permit for the access roads should be issued, and on July 26 we have the opening of the bridge with part of the access roads,” Croatia’s Transport and Infrastructure Minister Oleg Butković told Dnevnik.hr.
The remaining 10 kilometres of access roads and the Ston bypass will be completed by the end of the year.
The bridge, worth €550 million, was connected three months ahead of schedule and three years after workers from China Road and Bridge Corporation started work.
Minister Butković said the July 26 will be open to all people, who can come from the very morning, walk across the bridge and be part of the event. The official formal opening ceremony itself will take place in the evening.
